maternity t-shirt refashion

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I figured this year I needed to find a new green shirt to wear since my maternity stash did not have any.  I found this shirt at a thrift store for 50¢ and even though it says Scotland on it, I figured it would work well for St. Patty's Day.  I just wanted it to be more fitted than the baggy men's XL shirt that it was.  So, I flipped it inside out, took in the sides, shortened the sleeves and added some elastic to the sides to "rouch" them and make it more fitted.  I think it looks pretty good - I like the look of this better than baggy shirts that just hang on my belly anyway.  Now to try it with some other shirts...

ruffle tank top

Almost every craft blog seemed to have something with ruffles so I don't know where this came from exactly.  Basically, I took 3 strips of fabric and ruffled" them.  (Meaning, I sewed a long straight stitch down the middle, pulled on one of the threads until it looked like a good size, pinned them down, and stitched them onto the shirt.)  I didn't even bother to hem the edges since I was lazy and kind of like the frayed look.  (And, no, I am not size XS - this is for my 4 year old daughter!)

birthday shirts

I had been seeing a lot of cute appliqued shirts on etsy and at craft fairs, but I didn't think I could do it since I don't have a monogramming machine.  Well, I noticed that a tight zig-zag stitch looks the same and that a normal straight stitch looks sharp too!  I started making appliqued shirts with '1's on them since I figured that was generic enough and then added '2's and '3's.  Maybe when I can read people's minds and know what they want I can add more!  The process is simply use Heat 'n Bond to adhere the shape to the shirt, then stitch around the edge with whatever stitch you want!

t-shirt dress

This is my first attempt at attaching a skirt to the bottom of a t-shirt.  The red is actually from an old t-shirt of mine and the shirt wasn't one of my favorites so if I had to throw it all away it wouldn't be a real big loss.  Addie loves it and I have done a couple others since - this is just the only one I have pictures of!

Basically I just cut off the bottom of a t-shirt, pinned/pleated it around the bottom of the shirt and sewed it on!  Done!
