maternity t-shirt refashion

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I figured this year I needed to find a new green shirt to wear since my maternity stash did not have any.  I found this shirt at a thrift store for 50¢ and even though it says Scotland on it, I figured it would work well for St. Patty's Day.  I just wanted it to be more fitted than the baggy men's XL shirt that it was.  So, I flipped it inside out, took in the sides, shortened the sleeves and added some elastic to the sides to "rouch" them and make it more fitted.  I think it looks pretty good - I like the look of this better than baggy shirts that just hang on my belly anyway.  Now to try it with some other shirts...

I have had this dress in my closet for about 3 years.  I bought it at Target for about $5 and always thought that I could "do" something with it - it didn't fit quite right, but I liked the top and the color.  Well, now that I can getting bigger, I realized that this baggy fitting dress would be just right for my growing belly.  All I did was sew a one inch strip of elastic just above where my belly starts to pop out.  I stretched it tight as I sewed so when I was done, it gathered it nicely and gave the dress some shape.  It might even work better like this when my belly goes back to normal size!

knit shirt to toddler dress #2

My daughter had been asking me to make her a dress after what she saw me make for my niece for Chirstmas.  We found this shirt for $1 - it was one of the few that were long enough to actually make a dress out of.  I had to change the neck and make new sleeves (two firsts for me).  So, don't look too close!  She is happy with it - she did want to wear it right away.  And that makes me happy!

Yet another knit shirt from my stash - cute print, terrible fit.  I was able to make a pair of yoga pants (my first attempt at making pants), a skirt and a little applique for a shirt to complete the outfit.  Not enough fabric for my 4 year old, so my 1 year old niece got them!

I found this shirt at a garage sale for 25¢.  It didn't fit me very well, but I loved the print.  I finally decided to refashion it into a toddler dress.  This is what I came up with.  I based it off of an 18 month shirt.  Maybe one day I will actually try it on a little girl to see if it fits!

 

 

t-shirt dress

This is my first attempt at attaching a skirt to the bottom of a t-shirt.  The red is actually from an old t-shirt of mine and the shirt wasn't one of my favorites so if I had to throw it all away it wouldn't be a real big loss.  Addie loves it and I have done a couple others since - this is just the only one I have pictures of!

Basically I just cut off the bottom of a t-shirt, pinned/pleated it around the bottom of the shirt and sewed it on!  Done!
